Quilting Instruction
At  Janie's Quilt Shoppe you'll find quilts for sale of all colours and sizes, shapes and uses. There are bed size quilts, crib and
baby quilts, table top quilts and table runners  -   everything from doll size to wall hangings.

We do pieced patterns &  appliqued quilts, long arm machine quilting and hand quilting.

Our quilts have been exhibited in quilt shows in both Canada and the US, and have been in demand from people who know the
creativity and quality of our work.

You may select something from our photo inventory, or specify a size,  pattern and your favourite colours to have one custom
created to suit your decor and taste.  Our quilts make lovely heirloom gifts, or treat yourself to a handcrafted work of love.
Quilts can be handed down from generation to generation and retain their special qualities of fine workmanship and creativity.

A History of Quilts

Quilts are a historical document of sorts.   They are usually made with popular fabrics and colours, and can tell a story about the
quilt maker and the times in which she lived.  Early quilts from the pioneer times were made from usable scraps of old clothing,
and very utilitarian.  Sometimes wool batting was used for extra warmth.  Women were able to be creative in their colour choices
and designs, making works of art out of leftover bits from clothing for the family.  The art has evolved into a wonderful form of
expression for creativity, with some of the traditional designs remaining as the best loved.

BATTING   Your choice, either polyester or cotton.  It should be at least 6 inches bigger than the quilt top on all sides.  You
can supply your own  -  if I supply, you pay the cost of the batting, rounded up to the next dollar, plus $10.00.

BACKING You  can provide your own 100% cotton backing, at least 6 inches bigger than the quilt top on all sides.  If I supply
the backing fabric, you pay the cost of the fabric, rounded up to the next dollar, plus $10.00.  If I piece the backing and press
it, add $25.00.  If I press your top, add  $10.00.

BINDING  You can provide pre-cut fabric of your choice for binding.  A nice width to cut for a French folded binding is a strip 2
3/4 inches by the total length around the quilt plus 18 inches.  Sewing the binding on and hand sewing it down costs:  Single /
Double $20.00, Queen $30.00, King  $40.00.  Fee for cutting, and joining strips is $10.00.

THREAD  There is no additional charge for thread.   I have a light, neutral colour to use, however, if you want a special thread
such as a certain colour, variegated or metallic, I suggest you purchase thread that is acceptable for long arm quilting and send
it along with the quilt top.  I will return the unused thread.  If I purchase the specialty thread, add the cost of the thread,
rounded up to the next dollar, plus $10.00.

There is a minimum charge of $25.00 on all quilting services.
